Behavior Management In 4th grade, we use Classroom Dojo to track student behavior. Clear behavior guidelines will enable our classes to run smoothly and to provide a positive learning environment in which students are expected to remain
safe, kind, and responsible. Classroom Dojo a website that allows teachers to give students immediate feedback on their behaviors. Each day your child has the opportunity to earn positive & negative points based on his/her behavior. Students get very excited when they are awarded points and creates an excellent classroom atmosphere where students root for one another! I know you will be proud to see the great behaviors they are displaying, and in turn, if there is something they need to work on, you will be able to see that as well. The amount of Dojo points they receive each day correlates with a color which is another indicator of your
child’s behavior each day. Your job: Discuss the color your child earned each day. Colors are located in your child’s assignment notebook in the square to the right of each day’s assignments (by the signature square). I believe in high expectations with consistent, positive reinforcement. It is critical to develop an understanding of what motivates students to strive for excellence, and provide the appropriate feedback. Color Code:
Orange = “Outstanding with 10+ Dojo Points!” Students earn an orange note home! Green = “Good Day with 5-9 Dojo Points!” Keep up the good work! Yellow = “Think About It with 1-4 Dojo Points.” This is a warning. Red = “Teacher’s Choice 0 Dojo Points.” Stop making negative choices. A red student note to be signed will go home explaining behavior. Blue = “Parent Contact with negative Dojo Points.” A blue student note to be signed will go home explaining behavior. You "blew" it today! If a student ends the day on this color, they have made numerous poor choices throughout the day or inappropriate verbal/ physical contact was made with another student. I created the classroom management plan of "Dojo Masters" which awards those who receive the most positive Dojo points the previous week. I take the positive Dojo points, subtract the negative points and find the 3 students with the most points for the week. These students then receive a prize on Monday Mornings that changes weekly and are allowed special privileges throughout the week. This was highly motivating for our 4th grade students! We feel that this universal program will provide students with consistent behavior expectations. Our experience has been that students not only enjoy an orderly classroom, but also thrive academically as a result! Please discuss the importance of proper school behavior with your child. With your support, we hope to make this a fun and productive year of learning for your child! |
